TOCFL (TOP-Huayu) and new HSK are two tests for non-Chinese speaking people.

About TOCFL and new HSK Tests

TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) tests Taiwanese Mandarin and HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) tests Putonghua.  Both of them are for non-Chinese speaking people, and they have traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese versions.  Therefore, their certificates can be used in applying for schools or jobs that require Chinese ability.

 

 

For Testing Your Chinese Ability

I do not suggest you buying any textbooks or taking courses for that, because what do you need to learn at first is from your daily life.  Moreover, if you do not know how to create Mandarin/Chinese sentences by yourself with basic grammar structure and cannot understand it, then, no matter how many books you read, it will not help you a lot.

 

So, what do you have to do is keep learning from anything that you see or hear in your daily life, making notes, using them, and practising them by speaking and writing.  Do not keep studying textbooks and memorize the test questions which are always be changed every time.

 

If you want to try your HSK level, type "HSK X級試題" and google it, the first 1 and 2 PDF file is the free test papers with answers.  The "X" part could be "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6" because it depends on which level of HSK test paper you want to get.

The Main Differences between TOCFL, OLD HSK, and NEW HSK

1. New HSK is much easier than TOCFL and old HSK.

2. There's no Zhuyin and Pinyin in TOCFL test, but there's Pinyin in NEW HSK level 1 and 2 tests.

3. TOCFL focus on all different ability that included speaking, listening, reading, and writing, but the writing part in HSK test just test your memory of reading, not test your writing ability.
